We fell in love
with the wonderful breed of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels about 7 years ago
and they have been our loyal constant companions ever since. They are kind,
gentle and very loving. We have now added a Papillon to our happy band, and
are based in West Sussex. We thought long and hard about whether to breed or
not, but happily decided to go ahead after much advice from other
experienced breeders. Our decision has provided us with years of
fun, excitement and joy watching the pups being born and developing into
wonderful little characters, twinged with sadness when it is time
to say goodbye as the pups go off to start their lives with their new
families.
We are
fairly new to breeding, having had 9 litters so far. The puppies are
bred from parents who are tested clear for heart and eye problems
associated with the breed, raised with great care, love and attention in
our home. They get used to all the usual household noises, with cats and
teenagers, so when the precious little ones leave us they are confident,
cheeky, friendly characters ready to fit in with their new families.
They are health checked by my vet, kennel club registered, wormed and
have 6 weeks free insurance. They leave with a puppy pack, enough food for a few weeks, a blanket, toy and an information
pack, as well as our hopes for them to have a long, happy life.
Flick,
Midnight, Star, Skye, Crystal, Eddie and Chelsey are all kennel club
registered pedigree dogs and very much loved members of the family. All
the puppies have been lovely little characters, all different, but all
equally adorable. We love to hear all about what they are up to throughout
their lives. It's wonderful to see how they develop into adults.
Cavaliers are people dogs;
they love to be with you all the time and are gentle and fun loving,
they are happy to go anywhere you are going, they don't like being left
alone for too long so you need to make sure that you can give them the
life that they deserve for the whole of their life. You need to
think carefully before committing yourself to about 12 years
They fit into whatever
lifestyle you have, whether you intend long hikes in the countryside
every day, or just a 20 minute off lead run.
They are equally happy in a
family with children, with whom they form deep bonds, or in an adult
only environment.
They do like their home
comforts, but are ready to run through muddy puddles, chase birds and be
very cheeky, not quite the pedigree lapdog that some consider them to
be, but very much the ideal pet for many families who are adopted by
their puppies.
Cavaliers are intelligent
and can be easily trained, although they do have a stubborn streak, and
will try to train you, rather than you train them, given the
opportunity. I find that they respond best to clicker training, which is
fun for everyone.
With Cavalier King Charles
Spaniels, it makes no difference whether you choose a girl or boy, both
are as sweet as each other and make excellent pets.
They do need regular
grooming to keep them in good condition, this is not too difficult, and
a good time to check out nails, teeth and skin condition.
They are
generally a healthy breed, as long as they are bred from healthy
ancestors, only needing yearly checkups with a vet to make sure they are
free of heart disease and in good general health.
You must
make sure that every member of your family wants to have a puppy; it's
not fair on the puppy if you don't have the time, patience, money for
food, toys vets bills etc, to ensure your puppy gets the start in life
he deserves. If after a lot of serious thought you still want to go
ahead, I can say that your puppy will give you years of loving, caring,
very rewarding companionship. Everyone who has been adopted by their
Cavalier friend will also say that this is the case.
